Sidónio Pais

(1872 – 1918)

Controverso e carismático, Sidónio Pais ficou conhecido como o Presidente – Rei.

Adorado e venerado por boa parte da população, particularmente pelas mulheres, reabilitou setores da sociedade em conflito, como a Igreja. Institucionalizou a caridade, protegendo os desfavorecidos, ficando associado à “sopa dos pobres” ou “sopa do Sidónio”.

A controversial and charismatic politician, Sidónio Pais became known as the President-King.

Worshipped and revered by a large part of the population, particularly women, he rehabilitated sectors of society that were previously in conflict, like the Church. He institutionalised charity, protecting the poor, and his name became associated with the “soup for the poor” or “Sidónio’s soup.”
