Guerra Junqueiro foi um homem de causas e uma referência nacional. Escritor polémico ajudou a criar o ambiente revolucionário que conduziu à implantação da República. Em 1923 a sua morte é notícia nos jornais durante uma semana. Considera-se que “desapareceu a maior figura de Portugal”. A opinião pública exige funerais nacionais, homenagens e estátuas.

Guerra Junqueiro was a man with causes and a national reference. A controversial writer, he helped create the revolutionary environment that led to the implantation of the Republic. In 1923, his death was on the news for a whole week. People said, “the most important figure in Portugal has disappeared”. Public opinion demanded a national burial, honours, and statues.
